Great news from Dubai as our Clodagh Fleming sweeps the title of Dubai Rose 2009 and now goes forward to the official Rose of Tralee Festival in August. Book your flights now!
Clodagh - in her own words
My name is Clodagh Fleming. I am 27 years young. I am from Ballina in Co. Mayo in the west of Ireland called Ballina. I come from quite a big family, seven in total: my mother Mary, my father Tom, my brother Greg and sisters Rebecca, Charlotte, Stasie and Hazel.
I have been living in Abu Dhabi for over four years now. I work for Etihad Airways as a Cabin Manager and part time IFS Facilitator. Before coming to Abu Dhabi I worked for another small company called Aer Lingus for over 3 years, starting my career as a customer service agent and then taking to the skies as cabin crew. While I did love it in Ireland, I felt like I needed to travel. One day while at work someone gave me a page out of the Irish Independent newspaper and said “you should apply for that job” pointing at a advertisement for Etihad Airways the national Airline if the UAE. I didn’t really know where the UAE was but I was intrigued to find out.
I applied and was called for an interview, where I met some lovely girls from all around Ireland whom I am still friends with today and who are mostly still working in Etihad.
I love it here in the UAE as I feel I have grown and developed into a very happy and confident young woman. I really don’t believe that if I was anywhere else in the world I would be the person I am today. I have learned so much from the people I work with and interact with on a daily basis. All the different cultures, backgrounds and values they have and I am very grateful to all the opportunities Etihad have giving me throughout the years.
I am also very happy to have met my lovely boyfriend Michael who has been so much support through this whole Rose process. I don’t think the poor guy quite knew what he was getting himself into. But he never complained once. Mind you it’s early days yet!
In the future I hope to move back home and open up a horse riding center. I don’t mind where, but I love Galway so maybe I will end up there, please God. I would really like to thank all my friends and family for all the support they have shown me throughout the past few weeks and I hope I do you all proud in Tralee.
